I usually don't rate books I DNF because I don't think it's fair. Admittedly, I usually quit sooner. I got through 8o% and the MC just kept being stupid and, frankly, not nice. I'm done.

I read this first book in a series because the latest book was nominated for some prize.

This is a fun read but it took me a long time to read it. Marie was very engaging and Farley was quite endearing but I really didn't like James so I wasn't too keen on the "will they/won't they" subplot. The action parts were good but they felt quite bitty - maybe it was the lack of flow that meant I kept putting the book down and picking it up again. There were large chunks of exposition. The book overall is a fun read and I see a lot of potential in the author but I had a few issues with it.
