One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey

Complicated feelings about this one.

Two sides to this coin:
Side 1, of fascinating imagery, unique allusions, and thoughtfully interwoven symbolism and counterculture commentary
Side 2, of ignorant portrayals & profiling, a stagnant & repetitive plot line, and every character as stereotyped & “morally-grey” (sure, there’s some human depth & realism, but is in need of a purpose for the modern reader to get behind, leading to a lackluster reading experience).

Interesting to discuss and process, yet not without those sourly out-dated portrayals if you ask me, regardless of symbolic representation. Namely, misogyny.
