Everything about it screams everything I love about writing the heartbreaking characters and struggles the laughs and black joy all rolled into them finding their own purpose within and outside of each other.

I enjoy magical realism, but my problem was actually with the dialogue, which was really cheesy. There were moments where I wasn’t sure if the writer was trying to be over-the-top funny, but it wasn’t working me at all. Also, spats were mentioned at least five times in one chapter. The sisters and mom were so flat, they were pretty much caricatures. I had high expectations after Seven Days in June, and I know people loved this one but it was not for me.

New and original love stories are SO hard to come by now and THIS is a gem of a love story! Unique, curious, heartbreaking, modern yet classic at the same time. Tia Williams made me a BIG fan of her writing with this!
