The protagonist is a freshman in high school, but as I read this I placed her personality into the middle school age group. Though the more I've thought about it, the more I realize that there are plenty of freshman at my school who are like this. There are even people in my eleventh grade class who are like this.

The only characters I can say I actually liked are Samantha and George.

The ending was pretty good and is what made me give the book a three star rating instead of a two star.

Writing Style: Two Stars
Characters: One Stars
Plot: Four Stars
Overall: Three Stars

All in all, this book wasn't terrible, but I felt like the characters were quite stupid and naive compared to what I feel like the average fourteen year old would be.

If We Kiss is a book with no real substance. I guess there could have been a message to it but it didn't come across to me. It all just seemed a little too pointless.

If We Kiss is about Charlie's first kiss and what happens afterward. The whole kissing part wasn't even that big. The story was more about what happens if she kisses him again later even though she didn't enjoy it the first time. Oh and things have really changed since the first time she kissed him seeing as now her mom is dating his dad and her best friend is dating him.

I couldn't like Charlie. She was whiny, selfish, rude, and just plain mean at times. Her mom was actually happy dating Kevin's dad but she had to be a complete bitch because that is not what she wanted. Her best friend was dating Kevin but whenever she thought about Kevin, she didn't seem to mind that. There were times when she even wished he would dump her. What kind of friend does that?

Also, there just didn't seem to be anything to the story until the end when Charlie finally grew up a little. She was 14-years-old but she acted more like she was 11 or 12. The setting of the high school didn't seem like any high school today. It's almost like the characters could have been in middle school. That was probably closer to their attitudes.

Overall, I didn't like If We Kiss and I would only recommend it if you are desperate. I couldn't get into it and now I am just glad that I am done with it.

Short, sweet with a bitter after taste.

The shortness of its length didn't leave much room to develop a liking to the characters. Then again, if a book is written well, the length wouldn't matter so much.

Relationships here were awkward and the pairings aren't really likeable.

I was just looking for a quick hit and this one caught my eye. I'm still interested to read the follow up, regardless of how I felt about this book.

This was cute and kind of silly. If not for the last 40 pages or so, this would have been a solid 2 stars

But with all lies and people who can't help but tell lie after lie after lie, I find it's only realistic if we get to see the point where all their lies catch up and they have to face the truth.

and George was adorable ;)

Okay, not gonna lie... I reeeeaaalllyyy disliked this book about halfway through. I swore I was never going to read the next one.

After their big blow up, I was just sure that Kevin and Charlie were never going to work out. It was too "weird" now and after their secret got out, my heart just fell for Charlie and George. Like, I felt happy and hopeful for the two of them.

I really hope Kevin does not come back in her life, though I'm sure he probably will.

I read some of Rachel Vail's books when I was younger and I always thought they were wise and relevant, but this one felt strained. Charlie had some good points to her but her "wise"-cracks were barely wise, and I got kind of sick of people saying how "honest" and "headstrong" she was. Kevin seemed like a weird dude anyway, but maybe it's just because he's not my type.

But anyway, the book is short and sweet and after reading a (bad) 600 page book about Scottish time travel it was just what I needed to detox.

Me in 2005: A good book for teens about how people relate to each other, and how poor communication can lead to big problems.
