Reading 2023
Book 14: Captain America: The Ghost Army by Alan Gratz

Saw that Alan Gratz had a new book out and I had to read it. It came out on Jan 3, 2023. Reviewed for ages 8 and older, I would say probably 10 and older.

Synopsis: In this thrilling historical adventure set during World War II, Steve Rogers (AKA Captain America) and his young sidekick, Bucky Barnes, encounter threat like none they've ever seen -- a Ghost Army. The dead of this war and wars past are coming back to life, impervious to bullets, flames, or anything else the Allies can throw at them. The armies rise from the ground in the night and seem to disappear without a trace.

Review: I will read anything Alan Gratz writes, he is one of those auto buy authors for me. While this was a good graphic novel and different from his other work, it did not hold up to books like Refugee. Love me some Captain America, but this story was okay for me. My rating 3.5⭐️.

I am not really a reader/consumer of the Marvel universe, so I was mostly reading this one because Alan Gratz was  attached to it. This was fine, and I think kids that enjoy Marvel stories will enjoy this, but I was just meh. There were a couple of tidbits of Romani and Japanese American experiences during WWII that were briefly mentioned but did not play a central role in the story.

Sounds like a good book.
Update: this was an interesting, but good book nonetheless. The mystery was very intriguing, and Captain America fights against the ghost army, but I didn't know where they came from until later on in the book, created by a classic evil genius and mad scientist, who is following his father on some sort of plan, but that is left unanswered, maybe it would be revealed in the next book in the series. The sidekick character, Bucky, was interesting to read, and I liked his dynamic with Sofia and Captain America. If you like comic books set in the past, this is the book for you.
