Possibly the worst book I’ve ever had the misfortune to read. I can’t even give it “so bad it’s good” status. This is “so bad it’s worse” territory. Zero character development (I have never cared so little), zero plot resolution, zero writing skill, zeroes all around. The only true horror in this novel is that Peretti and Dekker did not have their writing licenses revoked on the spot.
Awful everything. This is a waste of time, and you should not read this.

Flat characters. Stilted dialogue. Not thrilling, not scary, just mildly annoying and trite. Partake if you think you can stomach it.

I hated the movie Nothing But Trouble and this is the same thing but in a Haunted House.

Book was okay. I prefer my victims to go running, screaming into the night; not praying for God to help.

House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker
Genre
Horror
Synopsis
Two couples find themselves broken down at an inn in the woods. Their plans to hunker down for the night and get help in the morning is thrown to the wayside when a dangerous killer traps them in the house. Can they escape with their lives?
Why Should You Read It?
It's got a good supernatural twist, which is interesting.
What Can You Learn From the Author's Writing?
Gross details you can weave into scary stories.
Overall Rating
2 smiles. Overall this one was not my favorite and took me too long to really get into.

This was absolutely horrible and I actually cannot believe I didn’t DNF. I had no idea what was happening the entire time and not in a good way???
Also the author would randomly drop traumatic facts like “oh this character’s daughter died just btw” and “oh so and so had a traumatic childhood but it legit has nothing to do with the plot.”
The ending was not satisfying in any way, there were so many plot holes, so many questions left answered, and my brain hurts.
