I am so very glad that this came back to the amazing characters and compelling magical stories that the series has done so well after the major letdown that was [bc:Fables, Vol. 13: The Great Fables Crossover|6503780|Fables, Vol. 13 The Great Fables Crossover|Bill Willingham|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1333579902s/6503780.jpg|6695339] Fables, Vol. 13: The Great Fables Crossover. Witches is actually one of my favorites so far because you get to see so much more from the sorcerers! It was great to see them take a bigger role in the buildup to the fight with Mr. Dark (who is still one of my favorite villains ever) and I loved seeing Buffkin the flying monkey in a hero role! Not to mention that I love that the fact that he's read everything in the library is what makes him hero material. Definitely one I'd recommend to fans of the series!

Bufkin and the 13th floor-turned-pumpkin sorcerers taking over the spotlight is a refreshing change of perspective.

"He READS. He reads everything."
mm, you're slowly making up for that Fables crossover issue...

Finally, Fables it back to the stories that I enjoy. The Great Fables Crossover seemed to come out of nowhere and was distracting. The story didn't move along as much as I would have liked, but there was some new back story with the witches and the Dark Man. I also enjoyed the final story that takes place in Haven. The Good Prince was one of my favorites in the series and I found the story at the end heartbreaking.

Could have been 2 stars but because of Frau and mostly Bufkin's character development it's now a 3.65.

Another great chapter in an increasingly creepy, complicated storyline. I was concerned that the defeat of the Adversary would cause Fables to lose steam, but the introduction of the Dark One has given the series even stronger legs to stand on. Well done, and I'm looking forward to more.
