Beast Boy is one of the few DC characters I really love and connect with. This new origin story brings a lot to the table for a well-established and loved character. While, at times, I wanted to smack Gar for making choices that really seemed so obviously poor, he's always been a bit of a rascal. Now, I do think this book has the same issue as Raven, having times where the time/place/space from one panel to the next or between chapters is a little jumpy, but overall it's not too bad. I look forward to the next installment!

So cool. I love Gar—his wit and charisma are adorable, as well as the green streak in his hair. I read it in one day from start to finish. The art is incredible, and the story is so fast-paced. It’s a little improbable at times, but it all tracks. I really appreciated Gar’s deviation from the normal cliché of the suddenly-popular person dumping all their previous friends. Stella and Tank are so cool. The author gave them some nice character depth, which is hard to accomplish in so few pages. The transformation sequences are so well-constructed, and just the green, I love green and when it’s painted onto a boy transformed into a wolf, it’s even better. I think everyone (including myself) can relate to Gar’s frustration with his stagnant growth, and his very drastic shapeshifter-puberty changes. His relationship with his parents is interesting, especially in relation to H.I.V.E. and the virus in Sierra Leone. I really want to see more of Beast Boy, especially with his relationship with the other Titans. His Bildungsroman arc was very well-constructed, learning to understand what “his thing” is, what his potential is. Beast Boy really unleashed the beast in this captivating origin story. Unleash the green!

I love Beast Boy and this graphic novel did such a good job at showing the other sides of his character besides the funny jokester that we always see him as. He felt like a real teen who has simple motivations like wanting his crush to like him, and who has tons of antics and acts on impulse. I can't wait for his and Raven's stories to cross in the next book and in the rest of the series to come.

This was a good standalone graphic novel! The characters were fleshed out relatively well for the short length of this story, thanks in large part to the art that was a great fit for the youthful YA style of the book. I found Gar somewhat annoying, though in a true-to-age way as a teenage protagonist and think he has room for good character development in later volumes. I do think the plot was pretty simplistic, primarily as there is only so much you can do with an origin story. As someone who had minimal knowledge of Beast Boy/The Teen Titans prior to this, I was able to follow the plot with no issue, and am greatly anticipating the sequel, which can hopefully elevate the plot and give our characters some more exciting things to do.

Another incredibly fun installment of this series. Like Teen Titans: Raven, I found having the installment of the normal teen life before the superhero stuff was incredibly fun and just made this a much more rich character. And I just love Beast Boy so very much as a character. Just good times all around. ♥
