I know a dozen little boys who'd love this book. It has goofy, swinging rhyme reminiscent of Dr. Seuss readers, and scribbly art that will make any kid say "I can draw like that!" The book looks like a chapter book but has 10 easy-reader-style stories, so upper grade kids can still feel ok holding it in public. And the countdown with the exploding cow? Guaranteed read-aloud hit!

Good for: beginning chapter books...looks like a chapter book, reads like a picture book and is filled with the sillies.

This was very fun. I read it in 10 minutes in a mini QBD book edition.

Collection of hilarious stories reminiscent of Dr. Seuss. Perfectly detailed doodle style illustrations. Physically big, but the text on each page is very minimal.

A really great transitional book for beginning readers. It's really just an advanced early reader, but at a thick 144 pages it presents like a chapter book, or "big kid" book. The humor is "awesome" and the black and white illustrations while somewhat cursory are often quite detailed and intriguing. Definitely inspired by [a:Dr. Seuss|61105|Dr. Seuss|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1193930952p2/61105.jpg], or maybe you could label this "the poor man's Dr. Seuss".

My six year old just discovered the Australian [a:Andy Griffiths|21956|Andy Griffiths|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1325259986p2/21956.jpg], and he will devour anything by him while laughing his eyeballs out, including this tome, incidentally quite a bit below his usual level of reading.

Once you have mastered the short sounds in reading and you are ready to tackle the OW digraph, this is the book for you. Lots of fun and seriously funny, even if you already know how to read.

Fun book that doesn't live up to its blurb (Lane Smith, Jon Scieska, and someone else famous for humor all in one!). Quentin Blake-y sorts of illustrations. Rhymed silliness.

This beginning reader features ten very short stories that are silly, raucous and great fun. The book starts with a story where it is raining big fat cows, then tells the stories of Noel the Mole, Klaus the Mouse, and Willy the Worm. The fun continues with human protagonists who ride bikes with spikes and wear lots of hats all at once. All of the stories are told with only a few words, allowing the illustrations to carry a lot of the humor. An ideal read for children who are reluctant to start reading, thanks to the humor that will keep the pages turning.

Griffiths has a great feel for comedy, offering surprising twists and turns in only a few words. His writing has a similar feel to Dr. Seuss’ Ten Apples Up on Top in its brevity and rhyming. Denton’s illustrations have a great frenzied feel. They are filled with motion and wild characters. I for one cannot resist a book where cows explode and udders go flying across the page. Must be a Wisconsin thing.

This is sure to find an eager audience among beginning readers who are looking for modern humor and silliness. Appropriate for ages 4-6.
