Fabulous nostalgic reread. I adored these when I was young and love them almost as much now.

This is probably my least favourite Mary Stewart book, probably because the heroine is a bit of a wet blanket, and the hero treats her appallingly. Also, the location wasn't quite as exotic as some of my other Mary Stewart faves. Still, it is well written and readable. Just not up there in the Stewart cannon.

I enjoyed this: it's not a heavy plot, and there's not enough time for the character's feelings to be as strong as they play out to be - but it is well written and a fast read.

Another stellar Mary Stewart outing. While all of her books are ridiculous and vaguely twee/cosy, this one actually takes a rather darker route, and the quite a few grisly deaths occur throughout. There's ritualistic bonfires, mountaineering tragedies, a colourful cast of characters and a twist that actually took me by surprise (well, ish).

I love Mary Stewart and I think this has catapulted to near the top of my favourite books of hers so far (though I still have a few to read).

I'd call this a perfect autumnal book - atmospheric, a bit grisly, but still with Stewart's infallible talent for cosiness - a gem.

The fact that this book is set on the Isle of Skye might be my favorite part...

I love Mary Stewart. This is not one of my favorites, but it's still a fine and romantic story, and a very fine mystery with Gothic touches.
