It makes me sad to know that there are no other books in this series as of right now. There needs to be, especially with how GRIM TIDINGS ended. Please write more?

The story continues with Ava and Leo trying to fit themselves into this bleak side world they’re now in, functioning in different roles than they’ve lived their entire lives. He now the Grim Reaper trying to sort through a whole pile of mini-reapers vying for power, and she the Grim Reaper’s hound, currently being pursued by a nasty serial killer who has his eyes firmly set on her. The world is muddy, their lives are muddy, and that’s exactly how I like it.

The Hellhound Chronicles continues to be gritty and nasty and Ava gets the hell beaten out of her time after time after time yet I keep reading. It’s all just so different from any other paranormal book out there, bucking against all the trends of mates and explicit sex and said sex tearing up a group or whatever. Not that I actually have an issue with any of that. I just consider the Hellhound Chronicles a breath of fresh air within the genre. It focuses more on the world and just how nasty it all is instead of some simmering romance.

GRIM TIDINGS especially has an excellent blend of paranormal and supernatural and horror, mixing biblical mythology with things like zompires. Love it. It all fits together so seamlessly and I love how all of this exists out of the corner of the eye of humanity. It’s there, but only a select few can see it. And it’s just so gritty and nasty. I enjoy it so.

And the romance between Ava and Leo. Slightly volatile but totally co-dependent, in a good way. Not sure if that’s a thing but I’m making it a thing for the sake of my review. They’re such a great fit for each other and they look out for each other and it’s actually a functioning, healthy relationship, all things considered. I’ve seen far worse, let’s put it that way.

Again, I wish there was more to this series, but right now it looks like this is it. I guess that’s what re-reading’s for, right?

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
