Very easy read. I knew Felicia Day from The Guild and from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. It was really impressive reading about how her career and how she has basically created her own little empire via the interwebs. I knew she was cool, but reading her memoir really let me get to know her and all of the hard work she has put into her career. Now all I feel like doing is watching The Guild and playing World of Warcraft.

If you like Felicia Day's acting/YouTube work, you'll love this book. Not much more to say, really. She is a delight.

Funny. Awkward. Smart. Weird. Pretty much exactly what this book needed to be. Listen to the audiobook, narrated by Felicia Day herself!

I listened to Felicia read her audio book.

If you are a nerd like me, you will already know and love this girl. If you don't know Felicia, now is the time. Do it now! Read this book and enjoy.

I'll never forget the first time I saw the "Do You Want to Date My Avatar" video. As a women who has been gaming for decades, I lost count of how many times I was told I was "hot" on MMOs like Everquest because, apparently, some gamer dudes really liked the look of my elf avatar. Okay. So when I saw that video, I fell in love. I thought, "This woman speaks my language. She understands my experiences." I immediately went out of my way to get The Guild through Zune (yes, I was on the losing side there) and proceeded to fall further in love.

Obviously, Felicia Day is a woman whose work I already admired, but I admire it even more after reading her hilarious and interesting memoir. I'm so with her when it comes to the internet. Without it, I might never have found someone who got what was, at the time, a more niche interest for women, one I couldn't discuss with many people because they didn't understand. I found a lot of my tribe on the internet too, which makes it a place of twofold wonder. I'll never cease to be glad that the barriers to entry were obliterated by the internet. Otherwise, I might never have been able to see the work people like Felicia are doing. Like her, I look forward to seeing what's next, because along with our technological revolution, I believe we're in the midst of a creative revolution as well. The gatekeepers no longer have the final say, so this has become an era of greater representation and variety, offering something for everyone like never before.

Yet, for as good as this all is, Day doesn't shy away from discussing the bad, and I'm glad for that. Social change is only possible when dialog happens, and if there was any good that came of Gamergate, it's that the problem is no longer in the shadows. Someday I might even turn on my voice chat when I play, something I typically don't do because I don't need the hassle of gendered insults and unwanted propositions. My avatar isn't here for your enjoyment, she's here for mine, and she's not going away. And the more I get to do things like save the galaxy with my female Shepard, the more I feel like I'm a valued part of a community I love.

Thank you, Felicia Day, for being one of the trail blazers. And thanks for your honesty about what you went through to get where you are. What you're doing is important, and I want you to know that you're achieving your goal of helping others (particularly women) see that their artistic vision has merits too.

I don't even like memoirs but Felicia Day is so interesting that I had to buy this one (just take my money). It was fun finding out more about her since she isn't entirely vocal about her upbringing in her web shows. The book made me laugh out loud at times (appropriate ones I hope) and was definitely inspirational. I found that many of the problems Felicia has encountered resonated with my own experiences and made me feel that much better knowing that she got through them. I appreciate the feeling of hope and accomplishment that this book left me with. Thanks Felicia. (Can we be besties, please?)
