This book just dragged. I was not a fan. In theory, it sounded cool, but honestly, most of the book was just a list of philosophical considerations about interstellar travel. None of the events that happened were interesting or even really all that important. It was just... meh.

A decent story and rather interesting in its use of the fantastical high technology of the series to colonize a new star system. However, like its predecessor, it has none of the boundless optimism and grandeur of the first book in the series. In that and the tone of the conclusion it is a bit of a disappointment.

McCarthy, Wil. Lost in Transmission. Queendom of Sol No. 3. Spectra, 2004.
This is a close sequel to The Wellstone and continues the development of characters and plot issues introduced there. The series loses a little steam in this one, although it does have some interesting things to say about the difficult economics and politics of setting up a high-tech colony in a hostile environment with a population that expects technological immortality and post-scarcity to be easily achieved. Recommended if you liked the first two. 3.5 stars.
