Devil’s Note is a difficult book for me to review. Initially, I enjoyed the plot and the crescendo that was building. Televangelist and Pastor, Bela Bigelow accepts a challenge from heavy metal singer, Gorr, things take a decidedly dark path. The writing was very good as with all of Rob Bliss’s work but I had a few problems with how the plot was developing and the deeper message that it probed.

The story focused on Bigelow and four pastors being invited to a rock concert. The heavy metal band and its followers are painted as evil, satanic worshippers. Which in the case of the story is true BUT where it went astray for me was the implication that the worst thing, that being gay was evil and was synonymous with being in league with the devil. There are vivid depictions of orgies and rape. Yeah, I just don’t think this one was me. I struggled with how the story developed.
