I really enjoyed Adams’ writing style. There’s so many fun quotes you could pull from this. I also really liked what he did with the Electric Monk and Gordon Way’s ghost. They had such fun storylines. The horse as well.

My biggest disappointment was Dirk Gently himself. I was expecting him to be whimsical and charming, but he was just so full of himself it was annoying. He didn’t really do much either.

The ending felt a bit rushed.

I read this as a teenager and had basically no recollection of any of the story, remembering the sequel (which I read first by accident) more. I can see why I didn't remember it very clearly! It's a very quick, witty and confusing book. Focusing on multiple different characters in vague and unconnected snippets it was quite hard to follow as an audiobook, and I had to listen to some chapters multiple times. But the strength of the book is in its holistic nature and all these elements begin to make more and more sense until the buckwild truth is revealed at the very end. I'm sure I'll be equally confused by it all in another 15 years when I pick it up again.

I didn’t like this book and Dirk Gently only got introduced like halfway through and it was all about an electric monk and a horse and some guy having dinner in university instead of anything detective related

Only the very end was like solving a murder mystery and it was resolved in like 2 pages which was boring.

It was nothing like the Netflix show (except that Dirk really likes pizza), but when I’ve read the other books in the series I’ll edit this if you should read them and just skip this book.

Read the book because I loved the Netflix TV show, but they are totally different. Both great and bizarre!

This book was super unpredictable, and I really enjoyed the writing style. In the end, it actually blew my mind with how clever it was. Unfortunately, the characters were a bit boring, and the plot was confusing. The only reason I rated it so high is because it's still interesting to read.
