Lighten up, would you? We’re eighteen. We’re too young for anything bad to happen.
I love books, scary movies and Regina George so naturally I was excited to read a book described as “Mean Girls meets Scream.” This was a fun lil summer slasher! It definitely lives up to the description, although instead of “you can’t sit with us” mean you get a ‘we’re toxic, but stick together cause we’re rich’ kind of mean amongst the friend group. The suspense was mediocre, in my opinion, but I enjoyed reading the typical outrageous/not-so-smart decisions made when a serial killer is on the loose 😂
I’d recommend this as a palate cleanser if you read a lot of thrillers or horror.

Read If: you want a fun summer slasher with a diverse group of characters, you like YA, you like your murder mysteries to have a hint of romance, you want a quick read.
Don’t Read If:you mind if almost all aforementioned characters of color die , you don’t like perfectly tied up endings, if you don’t like the way teenagers talk, sensitive to LGBTIA+ issues, sensitive to bully, sensitive to gore.
Don’t Read If:
Graphic: Bullying, Gore, Murder, Suicide, and Violence
Moderate: Outing and Homophobia

Writing: 5/5
Character Development: 4/5
Plot: 5/5
Warnings: Violence
Themes: Thriller, Slasher, Mystery
Summer Rental is about a group of friends that go on a beach vacation for their last celebration after graduation. But when they find out their rental is a famous murder house weird things start happening and people start going missing. This book reminds me of a 90s slasher movie and I loved it! The writing was really well done and it made you connect with the characters. I didn’t guess the ending but after I go back through the story I notice little breadcrumbs through the story. There were a couple of times Riley was a little too paranoid for my liking but overall she was a good MC. I would love to read other books by this author.
This book is great for anyone who loves a 90s slasher with mean girls and secrets.
I received an arc of this book and am leaving an honest review.

I won't lie... The beginning of the story gave me Jersey Shore feels, but I loved everything about the book!
The underlined tension umoung the group, the secrets and lies, tearing them apart.
And the suspense?! It was the best part!
I wasn't surprised to discover who the murderer was, but once all the secrets started to unravel and everyone's actions?! It was such a messy and tragic brilliance that I can't wait to read Rektok's next book!
