Simply powerful. Founded and curated by Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs, the She Will Speak Series has released its first themed anthology: She Will Speak Series: Gender-Based Violence. Valiant writers, including myself, submitted to this project to set their story, or at least some of its truth, free in this novel. For a project that holds such a sensitive yet imperative theme, the founder was very thoughtful when formatting this anthology: the opening of the novel includes the appropriate trigger warnings and a reminder to practice self-love and self-care before, during, and after reading, each margin has affirmations alongside every piece, and in between every fifty pages or so is a a more widely displayed affirmation and also a place to let the reader's thoughts out while reading the novel. This anthology makes an effort of being interactive to invite the readers to inherently be part of this movement as well. Additionally, the works of art elected were telling; it was, to say the least, moving to be reading such different stories about similar experiences. These narratives were weighty, tear-jerking, and absolutely compelling to read. I applaud all the writers for their bravery because of submitting their story to this incredible movement.
