This book defies catagorization, but is 100% awesome. I think I am beginning to like the steampunk concept.
Ms. Carriger has created an alternate Victorian England, full of vampires, werewolves, and a visit from the queen. Part mystery and part romance, this book was unbelievably good. I almost expected Dr. Who to show up in the middle. Can't wait for the next installment!

I liked this book, but it took me a bit to get into it.
I really like the idea of a preternatural/soulless as a species. The idea of being able to take away someone’s powers is pretty cool and I bet can be used well in a story. I also liked finding out about the automaton that was very Frankenstein-esque.
The love story was just raunchy enough. :)
May come back and read the others, but not itching too right after finishing this one.

It was ok- had moments that were enjoyable or funny but didn’t grab me like I had hoped.

Most of this book I read while I was in a reading slump so I think that had a big impact on my rating. I did like the quirky writing. I'm still not too sure about the characters. I did enjoy Alexia's and Lord Maccon's relationship though I do wish it had been dragged out just a bit more. It wasn't exactly insta-love but it did happen quite fast and I think I would've enjoyed a bit more slowburn.
Overall this was an okay read for me, it didn't exactly blow my mind and I'm not quite sure if I will continue on with the series.

It was like a boring Victorian proper English version of a Charlaine Harris novel.

I've always been fascinated by Steampunk. The clothing and gadgets are gorgeous. This was my first book in the Steampunk world and I loved it! Will definitely read more of this series.

It was good! While I really did enjoy this book, I do not think I'll be continuing on with the series. One book starring Miss Alexia Tarabotti is good enough for me.
