A wonderfully written story of a 1923 expedition to the Galapagos.  It's fascinating to see how a scientific expedition was conducted then:  Formal dining with linen table cloths, stewards to clean the rooms and feed the crew.  Also, the idea that what they were trying to do was return with as many specimens as possible.  Their first response to a new animal was to shoot it, dissect it, and stuff it to bring it back to a museum
