I'm not the best at forming coherent thoughts but... to me there was a few things that kept me from enjoying this book: the lazy half-baked themes, the unhealthy relationships and the word choice. With the themes, it almost felt like Soman contradicted his own writing. Or that he didn't have enough time to develop them? And with relationships there was a lot of shaming and manipulation, plus he used "words" such as chinkled, gawped, galumphed and pooh-hooed so much that it distracted from his otherwise stunning prose. I do think it had a really nice ending and he did a good job of tying up... most of the loose ends? He had me worried that nothing would turn out for a second which is honestly a remarkable feat. But yeah I mean it was a good story that I think could've been five stars had some things been different.

“And yet, even if my heart beats for Evil, that doesn’t mean I can’t find love. That doesn’t mean I can’t find happiness. It just means I have to find love with someone who embraces my darkness instead of fighting it.“

THAT ENDING DESTROYED ME. What was that,Soman? I still can't believe this is that ending. I just can't!
I love this trilogy so much, I love almost every single piece of this series. But that end...I just wanted more. I hate endings like this. Ughhh!
But when I forget about that end, I have to say I adored this book. I didn't want to finish it because I loved it way too much. And even though the whole series was quite predictable, the main plot twist shocked me. I was so shocked, so surprised and so confused! How on the earth didn´t I even think about it?
The one thing that really really bothers me till now is Hort´s fate. Why, just why? I just wanted a happy life for him, because he deserves this! Oh, The Last Ever After made me so angry, sad, happy and delighted at the same time that I don't even understand how it is possible.
Overall, I´m so glad I've read this series, because at least for me it wasn't just some ordinary middle-grade/YA story. This story has somenthing more to it-a deeper meaning.
Without good isn´t any evil, and without evil isn´t any good. Both of them are needy, both of them are important. They can´t exist without each other, because they make a balance. And without it, life would make no sense.

“It wasn't goodbye forever. Only goodbye for now. And if ever the distance was too much to bear, she would just look inside her heart, for Agatha was already there.”

I love The Last Ever After so so much.

I don't know if I can find right words to describe what I feel right now, how much this book means to me.
Because this was my reread , I suppose I didn't expect loving this book even more, but oh, I did!
And if there was a way to explain my love, my pure passion for this extraordinary book, I would write it down, yet I don't see it happening, I'm a mess right now.
In my previous review from 2017, I wrote that I wasn't that satisfied with the ending. Now looking back, STUPID ME to think this book could have ended otherwise for the ending is my favourite part now(it's really a treasure, isn't it, this little huge book?).
I have to say my minor issue with the second book in the series was more or less solved in here and I noticed Chainani's hints of making things clearer. I aprecciate that.

What can I say? I love you Sophie, you are loved, and it doesn't matter you are simply a character in a book, you are loved and needed and I want to squeeze you tight.

I had tears in my eyes and I ache for me( though I'm a bit worried about Quests for Glory, but I hope for the best!). My favourite book in original trilogy, for sure.

I LOVED this book. The story is so interesting, and made me never want to stop reading. I kept routing for team, favorite characters, and always wanted more. This book really changed my perspective on fairy tales, and question if anyone is really good or evil

Re-read:

It's been about two years and I still loved this book. Unlike other trilogies with last books that aren't very strong, this book was long and not rushed but very well paced for me. It was a fantastic conclusion with fully fleshed out and planed scenes and a great blend of war with character dynamics and side plots. Chanani tied all loose threads and has such dystinct character voice and realism throughout the book. The characters were complex with what they appeared to be yet, with a flipped side behind the surface of what they appear to be.

Fantastic writing. I will be revisiting this world.
