A good resolution to the mystery of Zuko and Azula’s mother. Writers did a good job of explaining her absence in a way that makes sense in the Avatar universe. It was, perhaps, “convenient”—but it didn’t feel contrived.
Graphic: Emotional abuse and Toxic relationship
Moderate: Abandonment and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Violence, Child abuse, and Fire/Fire injury

Ugh, I loved this. A great reintroduction to the series--the character voices were so spot on I could hear them in my head. Finished it in one sitting; I cried, I laughed out loud, I got warm fuzzies, I wrote a cheesy review--you name it. I basically reverted to my 6th grade self when I was introduced to the TV show for the first time. This series has been such a huge inspiration for me and this book is a wonderful addition to it.

That’s a pretty great explanation of so many things, I just wish it were a little longer.

We finally get some answers to big ATLA fandom questions! Azula is a tough character to spend so many pages with, and the “sweeties” between Aang and Katara still bothered me, but I was pleased to see Zuko get his happy ending.
Graphic: Mental illness and Violence
Moderate: Classism, Fire/Fire injury, Body horror, and Forced institutionalization
Minor: Child abuse and Murder
