Continuing with his lovable Pigeon, Mo Willems creates a narrative in which the pigeon really, really wants a puppy.  After all, they're just so adorable!  With a minimalist and cartoonish style, Willems knows just how to exaggerate and when to pull back--his images and text are easily inferred by small minds, and they're sure to entertain!  Great for the kid who wants a pet, or who just really likes animals.  Perfect for grades K-2.

Sometimes an author can overdo things... same character over and over and it just seems tired and uncreative and a series loses it appeal... BUT this is not what happened with the beloved Pigeon! He wants a puppy ... he really does... and he'll say and do anything to convince you of it. Well, we'll see what happens when he comes face-to-face with a dog...will the pigeon change his tune? Don't skip over the end papers or the title page & verso, you'll really miss out. I discovered that the pigeon and I have a lot of wants in common.

The pigeon wants a puppy and he won't listen to us as we argue with him. Once again, LOVE the reader participation of all the pigeon books.

Very appreciated by kids, although dangerous if you don't want to start a discussion about who has/wants a dog (and next time I read it, I think I'll bring a picture of a walrus--too many four-year-olds have only a hazy idea what a walrus is--but they still love the book).

Spoiler alert! Pigeon discovers he doesn't want a puppy after all! Pigeon shows us that 3 or 30, it doesn't really matter-- we all have an awesome irrational being living deep within. And sometimes, not so deep.
