This was a really weird take on drug addiction. I'm not sure how well I like this one.

Arc from Netgalley
Usually I'm not a huge fan of short stories but I really liked this one. It was powerful and moving and very sad.

A short story with a big impact. I wish she would have made this a novel.

My husband and I listened to the audiobook of this on our drive out of state. We liked the story but some of the stuff that happened in the story are things that would never happen. It is a short one though...I think it was only a total of about three hours to listen to.

A nice short story for my airplane trip. Totally surprised at the end which makes for a good read.

Pardon the pun, but there is a real disconnect with the book. It has an upbeat sound on such a serious topic. I understand wanting to be a more serious writer than chick lit, but this is lacking.

In recent times I have become quite the Jennifer Weiner fan – not always, but her last two or three books have been really good and she has made it into my must buy author list. When I spotted her new novella Disconnected on Netgalley, I requested it immediately and I was so pleased to be accepted. It’s short and sweet and very enjoyable.

Disconnected is a rather on point novella, telling us about the life of Shannon, a drug addict. Drug overdoses have been in the news recently (well, they always are to be fair) but the death of Cory Monteith is one that comes to mind immediately. Drug addictions generally don’t feature in Chick Lit because you can’t really make out a drug addiction to be something fixable as is proved time and time again so I was surprised Jennifer Weiner was so upfront with Sharon’s addiction, it was quite refreshing actually, if also disturbing and I kept questioning why she was getting such weird text messages and what was going on!

Disconnected is a short, 20 minute read, I raced through it before bed time, but it sure does pack a punch! It may have all been over in a flash, but it was incredibly well written and I liked how it all came together in the end – i wasn’t entirely surprised about the outcome, mind you, but I still found it very well done! This was a fantastic short story, and I will just sit anxiously awaiting Jennifer’s next full length novel because it seems like it’s been ages since she’s released a full length book!
