It was a midtier romcom. The relationship actually felt real. I just felt like something was missing and vibes were just a bit off.

This was a very cute, healthy YA novel about reinventing who you are, opening up etc. I loved it.

This was a very cute, young adult romance. I loved Alex, the male love interest, and Caroline's relationship with her friends and family. The relationships between all of the characters were very healthy, which was refreshing. This book was very lighthearted, and I liked the dynamic between Alex and Caroline.

4 stars!

this was honestly so so cute, it was literally so enjoyable, i really loved Alex and Caroline together , they were extremely adorable, i loved the way their banter , dynamics and the way they interacted with one another. ALEX ZAVALA , he is a busy busy man , but he makes time for her >>>>> he is such a golden retriever and sunshine boy , i will protect that man at all costs <3. He literally has a color-coded calendar with her inside , it has me screaming. he is welll rounded too , ACADEMICALLY AND HE CAN LITERALLY PLAY ALMOST EVERY SINGLE SPORT. and he tells her to eat up instead of just eating salads. when he does things to just make her happy >>>> Caroline , she was really cute , but a kinda black cat person bc she had a really huge setback and was moping about , but she had a really good support system of friends and family :)

tropes :
golden retriever bf x black cat gf
ex gymnast x sporty bf
reverse grumpy sunshine
older brother's best friend
playing matchmaker but ends up falling

Well, this was a fluffy, cute story with an overall lighthearted feel to it. Overall, this story's about having the courage to find out who you are, having the willingness to start over, and knowing what you really want, all in a cute, wholesome package that is the adorable couple of Caroline and Alex, two people who have known each other their entire lives, but didn't really know each other until Caroline is forced to make changes in her life and to not only adopt to her new normal, but to also embrace it.
So we have Caroline, who is this gymnast, and has a fifteen year old girl who had been living and breathing it since the age of five, it was her whole life and it was all she knew. Due to crippling back pain and an injury that ended that prospect, Caroline is forced to kiss everything she knows she is and does, behind. It's devastating, and I do feel for her, as she not only losses her sense of self, but she also losses the one thing that has been her passion for so long.
And so here comes Alex, her brother's BFF, to the rescue. He's handsome, a gentleman, and is incredibly talented in more than one sport as well as an overall gifted student. He's a complete catch, but to Caroline, he's simply her older brother's friend, and those faucets of him she has never quite considered before. Anyway, during a chance run in at that park, he decides to help her out in finding a new sport when she divulges in him that because of her back injury, she had to give up the one thing she loved most. He does this all to the goodness of his heart, and Caroline cannot believe it, so she vows to pay him back for his kindness, in which he claims he is doing this because they are friends. She ends up finding out accidentally that Alex has harbored a crush on her best friend for years and goes off to play matchmaker. Unfortunately, during the process in which she spends time with him playing these sports, she starts falling for him herself.
And there's our conflict. Not only is Alex off limits because he's Nat's best friend, but she does not want to acknowledge how she feels about him because of his feelings for her friend. The story is full of nail-biting angst and tension throughout much of the story due to this internal war Caroline is battling. Nevertheless, being the determined girl she is, she follows through setting up Alex and Sunny, her best friend. Now, throughout Alex and Caroline's time together, we find out that Alex has the opposite problem of Caroline. As talented as he is, he doesn't want the glory to his sport, to devote his life to it the way Caroline did gymnastics. He just wants to be normal and spend time with friends. However, because of pressure, he basically does what he's told and doesn't want to let down his family and his coach. Alex is someone who apparently doesn't fight for what he wants, including Sunny, which was why Caroline felt some compelled to help get her, despite what her heart really desires. Little does she know, Alex is battling one more internal struggle of his heart, and SHE is the subject.
Although there was a lot of sports involved in this story, the adorable chemistry between Alex and Caroline had me feeling all warm and fuzzy, like drinking a mug of hot cocoa on a rainy, cold day. As lighthearted as the overall story was, it still had a lot of deep messages embedded in it, as well as a lot of heart.
