Hamlet has become my favourite character. He is his own man. I'm quite speechless now. But I'll leave this here:

What makes Shakespeare so outrageously good is his ability to put the human condition into words better than anyone else I've seen in literature. Brooding over his lines feels like holding consciousness with all its facets and emotions from ire to joy, from exuberance to contemplation, to hold it bare betwixt your hands not in its original form (if it has any, and if it had it would probably be impossible to transcribe), but in an unfolding fractal yet crystallised form: Mandelbrot crystal. O 'tis the Renaissance for me!

A poem. Hamlet-inspired.

Inwardness, most o'rlook'd of qualia,

exhibit in most men yet master'd by

none, oft mistaken for a hedgehog's curling.

To roll, to wallow in some weal or woe,

an armor'd wheel that turns ad nauseam,

a mirror's mirror's bound to be witchcraft,

like a Luciferian sea whose waves

beget more waves, the spirit caught in a

spiral, and trapp'd inside a house of mirrors.

The mind from terrors suffers yet the body

ne'er budges, sits picture-like, still and pretty.

A tense play. All the characters have great depth, especially Hamlet and his spiral into madness.

yes this made me like hamnet more. i wish i had read it first a little bit, but i don’t think it matters too much.

so many iconic shakespeare lines come from this??? of course i knew “to be or not to be”, like duh,, but “the lady doth protest too much” ??? didn’t know that was hamlet!! “brevity is the soul of wit” ??? same thing! i’ve been quoting hamlet this whole time????
