I had to read the SparkNotes translation because it was incredibly difficult to read the original text. I think Prince Hamlet should not be looked up to/be considered this great protagonist because of the way his "mental illness" treated others around him (ophelia); however, themes such as anger, revenge, and protecting your ground is a commonality I see with him. I felt rlly bad for Ophelia though. Like,, that girl just minded her business, loved who she loved (even tho he was really crappy to her), and suffered the emotional torture from the males in her life.
I thoroughly enjoyed the slow descent of madness of literature's original angsty, emo teenager. 10/10 would read again and definitely want to see on stage sometime soon.
i don't really like shakespeare all that much, but this play was definitely the best of the ones i've read. hamlet is a f*cking jackass but he's so funny. sparknotes and no fear shakespeare and the best thing to exist tbh.
EEEEEEE!!!!! Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!! That was one of the best books I've ever read!!!!!!! It's so tragic, but so good, and written absolutely beautifully. It just makes you think about so much; life and death, revenge, ways you can react when things aren't going well (OK, really badly). I read along while I watched the Kenneth Branagh rendition of the movie, and it was unbelievable. I know some people don't like that version, but I thought it was amazing, and that Kenneth Branagh did an awesome job. I would rate this book a 6, if I could.
