Love this book.

Did not really read it from an analytical perspective so I cant talk about that but it was well written and engaging. I read l'assommoir after. I would recommend you read this one and l'assommoir close to each other, they pair well (this is a 'sequel' to l'assommoir).

This was the first Zola book I read and it hooked me in. The George Holden translation is also really good.

The imagery at the end HAUNTED me. In a good way though.
