Fanon is difficult to understand and often gets a bad rep from some of the more agitating statements he makes in his writing, but at the end of the day this book is essential in African studies and critical theory due to his understanding about the consciousness and the impact of social stigma on the person. Fanon makes his writing personal by interjecting lived experience into the analysis he makes, and in that way his metaphors and calls to action are more personal and understandable. This is an important book that I will likely have to reread to understand it further, but I am glad I took the time and (sometimes painful) struggle to get through this work. Fanon's message is, ultimately, a humanist one that calls for understanding and provides reassurance for the Black man (although I do wish he had taken the time to explore the difference and methods of discrimination against the Black woman more) on his suffering, his struggle, and the hysteria that plagues many minorities who feel that they are never able to belong in a society that claims to accept them.
