I read this as a kid and loved it. Still loved it as an adult.
Poppy is so fun and I always liked her the best when reading Princess of the Midnight Ball. She is so confident and brave. It was nice to get to know more about her and learn more about her depth of feelings.

I liked this new twist on a classic fairy tale. The author's principal female characters, as in her other books I've read, are imbued with admirable qualities that take them far beyond the milquetoast characters of the original tales. However, the ending seemed a bit abrupt and choppy---perhaps because I couldn't read the last few chapters all in one sitting like I would have liked!

I flippin loved this book! This has become one of my all time favorite series. There is not one thing I would change in this entire book. I liked how we follow Poppy, and get to see how the events from the first one have affected her 3 years later. I liked how it didn't forget about Rose and informed us throughout the novel how she has been doing. I absolutely loved how the Cinderella aspect was incorporated, I was a little hesitant how it was going to be done at first, but once you get further in and figure out how its incorporated it really quite unique.
All in all I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one.

I think this book was even more disappointing than the first one for me because it started so much stronger than the first. It felt like the retelling was grounded more firmly in a real person, unlike the first book where, though Rose was the main daughter of focus, all 12 princesses were important. The character development for Poppy was fantastic. At the start, so was that of Christian. The roots of the story also felt more deliberate and thoughtful. I really did love the way that she was able to take the traditional 'Cinderella' story and give it the background for it to feel real, even though it's based in witchcraft and magic. However, this book was ruined for me with its ending. Which is why I was forced to rate it so poorly. The ending was, in a word, rushed. All of the action and intrigue which had been building so eloquently just kind of ended with little description and none of the care that seemed to go into the rest of it. It seemed like she had a page limit, and couldn't go over it, so the ending had to be squashed into half the space it should have taken. Sigh. I guess if I'm being generous, it would be a 3.5-4 for 75% of the book, and a solid 2 for the last 25%. I'll round up and give it a 3. But it was seriously disappointing to come so far and not finish strong.

This second book in the series is a great sequel. Not as exciting as the first book, but still a good read

An interesting retelling of Cinderella. Enthralling enough to keep me turning the pages, but doesn't require super in depth thinking...daughter got if for Christmas and both of us had finished by the end of the day. You do have to read the first one to get this one.
