The comic book that convinced me of the importance of comics.

I fee like this is the first textbook in graphic novel form. Nick has a great way explaining his ideas that even I could understand. At some point in reading this, your mind will be blown!

A lot of effort went into this book, and sadly I think it was largely wasted. A bunch of cod philosophical statements haphazardly strung together. There is little overall message, nor any single insight that lingers once the book is closed. Pretentious and overwrought, and rather too didactic in some of its pronouncements (it strikes me as unfair to pull example out of context, but there is no shortage). Some of the art is nice, but, to paraphrase someone reading over my should "just because you did a picture doesn't make it more profound". That said, if it hadn't been a work of comics I don't think it would have got any attention whatsoever, but I don't think it is a particularly good use or example of the medium.

Wow, was für ein Comic: philosophisch geschrieben und gezeichnet über die Möglichkeiten, die Comics in der Philosophie bieten - oder so. Und mit Sicherheit einmalig: eine Doktorarbeit als Comic...

Skilled artist. Interesting metaphors and concepts. But I can't say that I enjoyed reading this. Doesn't seem like the goal of this book is to be easily understood and the cerebral language combined with often extremely full pages of imagery left my brain desperate to focus on anything else that was going on around me while I was reading.

This was recommended as a good book making the case for why we need different modes of learning, particularly in reference to graphic novels. While I am whole-heartedly on board with using graphic novels and comics as a learning and literacy tool, I would not use this book to convince anyone who didn't agree with me. This title is very academic and there are much more accessible options for educating people.

An underwhelming book, to say the least, but the art is amazing.
