Bullet Review:

If anyone has the time and the patience to bother reading through my individual issue reviews, here ya go:

Issue #1
Issue #2
Issue #3
Issue #4
Issue #5
Issue #6

For all those who don't want to bother, the short(er, since I could talk the leg off a dead horse) story is this: Once upon a time, I LOVED Kelly Sue Deconnick's Captain Marvel and gushed profusely about her. Yes, I'm the feminist lefty that also loved the movie with Brie Larson.

But...this is pretty bland and lackluster. Captain Marvel is assigned into space where she stumbles upon Tic, an alien refugee. Her planet was destroyed, her people relocated by Starlord's father to Torfa, a world that is proving poisonous to them, thus necessitating in a new relocation, which will decimate their population. She meets up with A RagTag Group of WeirdosTM, compiled of individuals the writers creating by thinking that "quirks" like enjoying music, making quips, being grumpy, giving yourself cutesy names and being a lesbian will make a character endearing in 7 panels or less.

The whole 6-issue plot has been done a million times before and better pretty much everywhere else. None of the characters are remarkable and after these 6 issues, I doubt we'll ever see any of them again (why should I care again?); the plot tries to be deep and complex and just comes across as the Same Old Overlord story we're all familiar with (The Emperor is BAD and wants MONEY AND POWAH). In general, I was stifling yawns and groans and would probably have quit had I not bought these six individual issues along with the subsequent 2 trades.

I would personally pass, unless you are a diehard Captain Marvel fan.

Actually Serious Sidenote: Is anyone really a diehard Captain Marvel fan?

I want to like DeConnick's Captain Marvel in all its incarnations. I really do. But something about the wackiness of the storytelling always puts me off. I was hoping the 2014 reboot would be better than the one from 2012 or 2013, but this installment actually made me cancel my monthly subscription to the series.

Almost everything I have to say about it has already been said by John Wiswell.

I will add that there were times when the art and story felt so redundant, particularly when Carol dealt with the local village elders, that I felt like I was reading the same couple of pages over and over and over again.

A basic, standalone Captain Marvel book... A good introduction for anyone who is new to her as a character.

Definitely need to read more by DeConnick. Captain Marvel was funny and just a straight up badass. She wasn't into trying to pacify everything in the name of peace and superhero guidelines.

Ugh omg I loved this book so much! I’ve been wanting to read about Caption Marvel for a while and I did enjoy the Guardians coming in and the overall color palette of this comic but I found the story a little hard to follow.

not a great starting point if you don't know marvel characters because you'll miss out on some fun parts, but excellent
