A disabuser of commonly held notions, such as the claim that George Washington wore wooden teeth, or that ostriches bury their heads in the sand. Some of the authors' own assertions--among them that the Andaman Islanders have not yet learned to make their own fire and instead have developed "elaborate procedures for keeping and transporting clay containers of embers and smouldering logs that have been kept alight for millennia, probably having originated in lightning strikes"--are a bit hard to swallow, but overall the book still makes for excellent party fodder.

In my general ignorance, I saw the dunce cap on the boy on this book and thought: gnome! Of course, I'll read anything with a gnome on the cover.
Boy, was I dumb.

And not just about that. Humans have (at least) nine senses! And George Washington's teeth were made from hippopotomus!

Interesting, informative and easy to read. I've just read the whole thing whilst sat in my college's library. If for nothing else, this book dishes out a few good conversation starters.

A really fascinating book. I love the series ans have watched it for years. I found this book good to read alongside another book. It was light and could be dipped into at any time.
