It’s crazy how she’s doing the stuff for people who call her slurs like it’s her name… at the same time, do you know how bad society has to be that people would rather side with a megalomaniac than them people its crazy. She definitely made decisions I would not have made, but I’m glad she made them. At the end of the day never trust white people. The smut was NOT needed the main reason why I’m docking points.

This book was amazing and original to me . I love to read a black face any day. Especially when she is bad ass like ikenna. Amazing book though I did want more . I hope book 2 fulfills what I felt I was missing from the story.

this book was impressive. the world building was impeccable, the characters were evocative, the tension was palpable throughout.

the connections ikenna forms and the connections that are betrayed are heartwarming and heartbreaking and everything in between. i wish we could have had more time exploring reed’s connection with her grandfather and what that means for the two of them, platonically if not romantically.

Written like a YA. interesting premise, but the writing was often distracting.

The book was written in a way that is very YA.  Some of the immature language/names of things I found distracting (like the there was gun called a starsploder) But the ideas behind the plot is good. I like the ideas of the blood trials and the magic system was super cool but I wanted a more adult novel. If you like YA I think you’d love this book just not for me.
