An excellent play by Martin McDonagh that weaves a brutal yarn about family and ostracization and the stories we tell ourselves and others.

If emotional whiplash was a play, it would be this.

Probably the least of McDonagh's play's I've seen/read, but still pretty feckin' great - consistently funny throughout. I did have a ticket to see the Daniel Radcliffe starring production on the West End a few years back but some work trip got in the way so glad I finally caught up.

McDonagh continues to impress with every work of his I encounter. Taking very relevant issues, McDonagh blows them into huge, brutal, humorous clarity. Farcical, satirical, dark, and consistently funny, this play is a critical examination of boredom, complacency, and what happens when one individual dares strive for something greater. Some of the humor didn't quite work for me in this one, but it also had some genuinely happier moments than a typical McDonagh story which were well handled and balanced with the play's insight into human character and the trials of the characters.
