This graphic novel (originally presented as a webcomic) is a meta-textual look at creativity, growing up, and the creative process. It's an affecting mix of fantasy and reality, looking at two brothers struggles to create art, ad the tensions between "selling out" and "creative freedom." There are some clever bits of business for comic book fans, with cameos by well-known comic creators and knowing winks at comic conventions and comic book tropes. It's probably more meaningful for adults than kids, who will appreciate the struggles of the main characters as they muddle through life, trying to make the best choices they can with what they are given. The script (by screenwriter Robert Littell) is top-notch, and the artwork (by the highly-underrated Mark Wheatley) is the perfect mix of realistic and fantastic. The series is followed (sort of) by LONE JUSTICE.
