Chop Suey nation is what I'd call a testament to the resilient nature of immigrants, in this case Chinese ones. There is a lot of love in these book - love of parents and love of children and also community love. Despite not being Chinese American nor immigrant, there were bits that deeply reminded me of my grandparents, who worked hard or left country for weeks or months at a time to make enough money to keep their families comfortable and be able to give my parents as much as they could in a country on the other side of the Iron Curtain.
I appreciated the photos at the end of the book :)
