Entertaining vampire book with a twist! I love that Sky’s blood is a sedative for vampires. I liked seeing her spin out of control because I think that would be an accurate response to her trauma.
I’m a big Fane fan.
I’m looking forward to book two! Hopefully we find out more about Fame, the organization and what Sky really is.

Meh. Nothing too spectacular about this series. But it occupied my time for a day.

One day she was just your average eighteen-year-old, introverted high school girl. But the car crash that took her life forever changed her future, and that innocent little good girl no longer has a place in the new life of a Vampire Hunter. This...is Aurora Sky.

I have to say, I was not altogether that impressed with this book. I wasn't sure how to take Aurora's complete 180 after her accident, and then Fane came into her life and complicated things even further for me.

I'm am just FLABBERGASTED at how freaking LONG it took Aurora to realize that Fane was a vampire. It was so...damn...OBVIOUS!! Literally ALL THE SIGNS WERE THERE!! (Few as there may be to perceive, but there nonetheless).

Dante was pretty much a shock on the senses. He was so damn peppy!! And what was up with Aurora's mom's instant like of him anyway? Really, it was like he was her long-lost son or something. Completely opposite of how she treated Aurora's ACTUAL boyfriend. Sheesh. And Dante is supposedly Aurora's MENTOR? Or TEAMMATE? Yeah, not freaking likely. More like her asshole chauffeur. SHE does all the work!! And he just leaves her to the bloodsuckers.

This love triangle angle that the author is trying to pull off is complete bullcrap. If it were up to me, neither of them would end up with Aurora. Neither of them are worthy of her!! Dante was with another girl that he truly cared about, she dies, and all-of-a-sudden he's ready to move on with a girl he's just met? Excuse me?? And then, there's Fane. He literally could not wait three f-ing DAYS after their alleged 'break up' to go running back into the arms of his ex. Yeah, to Hell with the both of them!!

Worst of all of this, Aurora lets them both get away with that crap, happily running into either of their arms as long as she doesn't have to be alone. Jeezus. GROW A DAMN BACKBONE MISS VAMPIRE HUNTER!! Elsewise you will always end up trod all over, and thrown out like yesterday's trash.

Aurora Sky is muddling through her final year of high school, waiting for the day when she can leave Alaska for college. Her dreams are dashed in an instant when she gets into a life-changing car accident. Aurora's saved from the brink of death, and is now part of a government agency that eradicates vampires.

Suddenly, Aurora's world isn't so boring anymore. She's not entirely sure why, but her entire personality has changed, and her old life gets left behind. But between killing vamps and spending time with the darkly gorgeous Fane, she doesn't have much time to worry about it. Aurora's plans have changed, but that doesn't mean her future will be boring.

This was a really quick read for me, and I quite enjoyed it. I did find some things a bit predictable, but on the other hand there were a couple of things I didn't see coming at all.

I felt for Aurora, really, in the beginning. She just kind of...exists in her school, and even her so-called best friend doesn't seem to care about her at all. Even worse, her parents do not agree on anything where Aurora is concerned. Her mom is there for her no matter what, but her dad turns tail and runs when things start going in a direction he doesn't like.

When Aurora awakens from her accident and goes home with the knowledge that she is now a vampire hunter, her personality does a complete 180. Suddenly, she's courageous, sassy, confident, and so over the friends she had in the past. But, just like before, she seems to be alone. Until she catches the attention of Fane Donado.

I have to say that the unveiling of Fane came as much more of a surprise to Aurora than it did to me. I mean, simply the way she described him gave it away! And this is a first person narrative, so when she saw all his weird habits, something should have clicked for her way before it did.

I wish that a few more things would have been explained, such as where Aurora's father went, and what his problem was anyway; why Aurora changed so completely after becoming a hunter; and how the "Agency" knows who to recruit anyway. This is a series, so I'm hoping these questions may be answered at some point in another book.

I really liked the fight scenes, I just didn't feel there were enough of them. I also thought the way things ended with Renard and Co. was kind of abrupt. But I loved the teasing between Fane and Aurora and I'm excited to see how things will progress between them.

I'm totally on board for more Aurora Sky--I just hope to see her kicking more vampire butt in the next installment!

Hunting vampires is cool. A graphic description of a teenager getting drunk underage and loosing her virginity to a loser jock who is cheating on his girlfriend is not. This book is not about hunting vampires.

When your whole life is taken from you, or at least you feel that way, sometimes you react badly. I've been there. Reading this I was sad about some of the main characters choices and angry that her life was stolen and she was supposed to be thankful and just follow orders. I wouldn't have stayed with a parent who sold me forever. Even to save my life. I found the Aurora very easy to relate to. I think she's right about fanatics. They have a cross on the wall in a government office. And seriously can we just off Valerie?

I'm just going to come out and say it: this book was pretty awesome. I knew I had to read this one after checking out the synopsis - I mean, this girl is recruited by the government to be a vampire hunter! And she really does kinda kick ass. Aurora is just your average teen - all she wants to do is finish high school and get as far away from her home state of Alaska as she can, but when the government recruits her she learns that she can never leave. Because of this and her new vampire-killing abilities, Aurora really struggles with herself, and even starts to rebel a bit.

I liked reading about Aurora and Fane, and thought it was pretty entertaining that there were so many obvious signs to point out that Fane may have been a vampire, but they all had gone over Aurora's head. Liking his character made up for the fact that I was really annoyed by Aurora's mother. I mean, not only did she pretty much sell her kid to the government (in order to her, but still...), but she seemed to want to live in total oblivion, ignoring the fact that her marriage is crumbling, her daughter is now an assassin, and that Fane might actually be a decent person.

I know that there have been a slew of vampire-related YA paranormal romances being released lately, especially after the success of the Twilight series, but I honestly think that this story managed to stand out for me - mainly because I discovered that Ms. Jefford is a really good writer, and formulates her writing in a way that doesn't make me feel like I'm reading fluff. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that I read through this book so quickly - I highly recommend it, and will eagerly be awaiting to read the next book in the series!

I liked the concept for this book when I first heard about it. A girl is in a fatal car crash and wakes up with little sign of injury, new organs and a government job that she doesn't want. Aurora has a rare blood type that when mixed with a certain chemical cocktail injected into her, leaves her blood tainted and can paralyse a vampire long enough to kill it. Now the government tell her that she is a vampire hunter who must use her new gift to kill the bad vampires. Except Aurora is in high school and doesn't want to do it. I liked the idea of the blood paralysis and the vampire hunting and I soooo wanted to love this series.

Lets start with the good. There were fresh ideas in the plot, the setting was Alaska which made a really great change, the action scenes were well written, the story flows nicely and the author does put together a pretty good story. The last section where we finally have prolonged contact with the vampires and Noel features more in it, is actually really good and I liked that part of the book a lot. It just took too long to get to the main point of the story for me and I found it pretty slow.

Character wise, Aurora is not my favourite MC. I get that she has issues with what has happened to her, but at times she annoyed me. I didn't like the way she looked down on Noel and her friends, the only people who seem to like her. Noel, without doubt, was the most interesting character and I'd have liked to see more of her. Valerie I can't stand the sight of and have little interest in seeing more of her. I hated the agents as well and found Dante quite irritating. I did quite like Fane but for me, Noel and Marcus were the most interesting.

So why just 3 stars? My biggest issue was that I had no idea from the blurb that the book was going to be pretty much set in her high school. The last thing I was looking for was another YA high school book full of teen angst, where almost every scene is Aurora at school or skipping school, going home from school, being with Fane. To be honest, had I known about this, I wouldn't actually have read it. We get a lot about Aurora's snotty so called best friend, the predictable fights with the beautiful school bitch Valerie over the hot mysterious boy Fane, classes and lunchtime meetings, skipping school to be with Fane, kissing Fane, obsessing about Fane, drinking and sex...Like I said I was expecting a kickass vampire hunter with training and missions and stuff instead of being back in the usual YA plots with vampires that I've seen too often already.

I was expecting it to be about her being sent out on countless missions to kill the vampires but other than her initiation, we don't have her in contact with a bad vampire for about 125 pages, and there was no training for the job or anything much to do with her job, except Aurora complaining about not wanting to do it. Those pages are filled with the love angst between Aurora, Fane and Valerie, which didn't greatly excite me. I felt as if we were just hanging around school waiting for the latest love drama or Aurora to do something bad. I found that pretty disappointing. I expected a lot more vampire hunting.

If the whole book had been like the last section where everything kicks off, I would have loved this book. I did find it well written and there is no doubting that this is a good author who knows how to write a plot. If you like high school paranormal books you will probably enjoy this book and I do recommend it to other readers. For me, it just wasn't what I was expecting and I can't see myself continuing with the series.
