I picked up this book used from Amazon this last Christmas, only because it was the one my dad read to me as a child. I have attended the ballet every year since I was 5, but sadly moved 3000 miles fromm my parents and have not gone to the Nutcracker with my father in the last 5 years. I still attend the ballet with my husband but I needed a piece of my childhood around the holidays and this book does it for me. Honestly I thought it would just sit as decoration, but I found myself reading through it multiple times getting to experience the magic it offered me as a child. I love the illustrations and the book itself.

I've seen the ballet several time but it was nice to read the story. This story is well written with pretty illustrations. It's a nice big picture book too. I bought this for my oldest son in 2003 as a Christmas present since he loved to see the Nutcracker ballet.

Finally read another Christmas classic. I do have to say that the Barbie version is a bit more excited. With revealing the prince at the end and the discovery of the sugar plum fairy instead of a banquet.
