Loved this book so much! The mythology was a perfect background for this plot. I loved the story and the trails the main character had to face. The ending of the book was great. I have to say this is a first time in a while where I enjoyed a book being a standalone and not wanting it there to be a sequel.

This was a really cute book.

I enjoyed reading it, stayed up late during my week to read it and finish it this year, and I really did enjoy it. If I had been 16 and I had read this a lot of things would have made sense to me, and I would have really enjoyed reading about this character, her lovely love interest (yay sapphic women!), but I did feel that as an adult it really was written as YA Fantasy.

Will say, liked the main character, loved the norse mythology, warrior women, loved the inclusion of horses (you don't always see that, so loved that as well) and the fact that despite being the underdog, our main character didn't necessarily turn into a bitter person but stayed very upbeat in the face of adversity.

Will also say that you can tell that our main character is a teenager, with how stubborn she is at times, but I didn't really mind that because I feel like it gave her a certain charm as well!

3/5 • Oh how I’d love to run away to find my destiny. Honestly this book was a great read, a little difficult at first but it was still very enjoyable. It really felt like I was in the PJO world again, as myth seemed to build this story to its greatest strengths. The problems and reasons why I’m only giving it 3 stars is strictly my experience with the writing. It was choppy, the dialogue was repetitive and lacking a lot of character, and some places were too rushed. I loved Sigrid and I really enjoyed the twists of this narrative, I just think the writing could have been stronger. It felt fragmented and broken instead of something fluid. It broke the movement while reading a few times. This held strong Norse Myth worldbuilding that worked really well, even if it wasn’t a full retelling, it was accurate in it’s descriptions. Overall a cute read that left me hoping that it gets better in the next!

Was annoyed by the main character and her decision making.

It always takes me a second to get into a new fantasy series but once I do I'm hooked. Sigrid is an orphan and she will do anything to become a Valkyrie. No matter how much she trains and shows everyone she can do it, they still won’t accept her. She eventually takes matters into her own hands and goes on an adventure of a lifetime. So many secrets are uncovered and everything she knows is a lie. Loved this new fantasy world.
