This was such a fun and compelling read! Love the revamp of Carrie but with the added racial component. I enjoyed the variety of voices we saw this story from and loved the added elements outside of the main bulk of the writing. This was also a fantastic audiobook, highly recommend and will be rewatching Carrie promptly, as well as finally reading the original.

This is a retelling of Stephen King's Carrie with a racial lens, and I thought it was well done. The book bounces back and forth between the narrative and a podcast that is being made about the final event that provides some more insight. Unfortunately I felt like that final confrontation felt rushed. There's so much build-up and then everything happens in a hurry and is done. I did appreciate the ambiguous ending.

Really enjoyed this. The ending conclusion was a bit heavy handed for me - I didn’t love being told what to think. The entire story was super nuanced until the last five minutes. And then it took a stance I was a bit surprised at. Super fun twist on a classic and presented a myriad of perspectives on race in a really well done way. Except for the end.

This was my first horror read and it got me excited about the genre! I’ve never read Carrie but I would this retelling was a perfect intro.
