Jessie’s grandma, Jessica had a bad fall and sprained her wrist. Jessie’s mother started worrying and kept on insisting that grandma had to live with them. Jessie didn’t want grandma to move in with her because she loved blue moon ( the place where Jessica lives) too much. Jessica always wore this charm bracelet, but now that it was gone Jessica started to lose her memories. Jessie swore to herself that she would find the bracelet before her grandmothers birthday. One night Flynn ( Jessica’s cat) snuck into Jessies room and indicated her to follow some voices. Jessie follows the voices into her grandma’s secret garden and unknowingly enters a portal between two worlds. She finds out that magic is running out and she must find the true queen to say a magical spell to save the hedge and get back home. The hedge keeps out all the nasty creatures from the fantasy world and if they don’t save it in time it will die. She finds out her grandma is the true queen and has to take back the charm bracelet stolen by her grandma’s evil cousin, Valda. Jessie tricks Valda and her grandmother casts the spell and saves the hedge and the fairytale world.

Like:
- Giff the elf helping Jessie and staying true to his loyalties
- Jessie also getting a charm bracelet like her grandma
- Patrice being really kind and welcoming

Dislike:
- The story being bland and predictable
- Maybelle the talking horse being rude and obnoxious
- Valda coming out of nowhere just to be the main villain and follow her plot line

rediscovered this series after having a vivid memory of one of the illustrations. Such a good 1-2nd grade chapter book.

One of the best books I read growing up. It was really clever and bridged that gap between children's books and teen/young adult!

The author certainly has a wonderful imagination. I didn't enjoy it as much as Deltora quest but my girls loved it.

A cute kids book, but I started to reread it and found that I'm definitely too old to enjoy it now. Oh well.

I've been feeling sentimental lately, and thus decided to pick up one of my favorites from when I was a young girl. Reading through it again I can see why I loved this series so much. It is fast-paced and magical and sweet. A delightfully nostalgic detour, and something I would definitely recommend to kids just getting into chapter books.

This was just a breeze.
