A real bummer because I was excited to read a book set in Melbourne and written by a Melbournian. Did not deliver though. Writing was sloppy, poor characterisation in that all of the characters felt like they were one person, which was most likely just the authors voice, couldn’t really distinguish between them. Everything felt very forced and effortful - the dialogue, the plot, the way the author wanted to include political points and so she just had the characters say their opinions about things and it was just jarring and didn’t at all weave into the text. Dissonance between what the author was trying to say and the plot with which she was trying to say it. Everything felt surface level and one dimensional, nothing clever or subtle.

Nicely written and imaginative book. Interesting concepts and such a lot of complex thoughts explored. Sexuality, intimacy, friendship, loneliness… so much… fun and wacky story line. Recommended
