There's something very interesting about Harper's style of writing. its blunt but descriptive (especially with gore) it's bleak but also fun. he's a talent for taking ideas sbd twisting them into a unique but also believable perspective without relying on the twist or a "look at this it's so different" approach. they work because they're well written. i also want to take note that when it comes to short stories, i have a habit of harping on how they leave you wanting more. well Harper side tracks this issue by having several seperated into two parters, where the second bit is still a unique and different story on their own, without taking away from the prior one. i think the only one that could have benefited from a longer story would be Leviathan's Song but even then it's a wild ride as it is. As a whole, the stories sre bleak, graphic in gore, but reigned in enough to keep from being exploitation, with strong narratives to keep it intense and me engaged.

A Great Introduction to Harper's Style.

The subtitle for this book declares it to be "a collection of horrors." Few truer words have been spoken.

If you enjoy stories with absolutely vivid depictions of visceral gore, then add this one to your TBR list right now. This was the first of anything I've read from Harper, and I feel this was a great introduction to his style.

Harper does a lot to promote other Indie Horror authors, often times showcasing them instead of his own efforts. His writing deserves attention, because these stories do not just depict horror in action, they are horror.

You know a story is good when it sticks with you for a few days afterwards. I finished this book over the weekend, and there are a few entries in this collection that haunt me still.

Ten twisted suspenseful short stories flow perfectly together which are packed full of gore - Harper doesn't hold back when it comes to detail. My favourite stories were The Rage, Carrion Gods, Glimmerman and The Shape of Despair. This book takes you on a nightmarish journey of experiments gone wrong which leaves you feeling nauseous and uneasy, a roadkill god that torments anyone on the road who must walk or die, a putrid old lady comes back to life, a poltergeist on the loose, a vampire, a malicious game coming to life and not to mention all the bloodshed.

This Lonely Carcass Song is a refreshing collection of horrors that I encourage anyone that dares to read..

I can't wait to see what else the author has up his sleeve.
