So far this has been my least favorite book in the series. I felt like I was introduced to new characters. No one seemed like themselves! The story itself was interesting, but slightly confusing. I feel like I've said this a few times so far this year. Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm losing my marbles.

I had read a couple of books in this series but that was quite a while ago. In fact, this book book has been languishing on my shelves for at least 5 years if not longer. I'm glad I finally read it as I do enjoy a solid police procedural. A mild-mannered accountant was murdered rather brutally and the police are trying to figure out why. Lots of detective work at a time that computers were just becoming more common. I liked the main character of Inspector Banks as he seemed rather real.

Police procedurals especially from Great Britain are some of my favorite mysteries. I have read about Inspectors Lynley, Allyn, Thanet and now Allen Banks. His beat is the Yorkshire area of England. Final Account is my first book by Robinson and I do want to know more about his character and his cases.

Final Account starts off with a bang literally. Why would anyone want to kill a mild mannered accountant? What could this person be involved in that would create the mess that Banks is uncovering?

Allen Banks methodically works though the case with the help and some interference from other law officials. This murder gets more complicated with every passing chapter.

If you are interested in a long running series with fascinating cases and the opportunity to get to know the characters, this may be the series for you.

An enjoyable read of crocked accountants laundering money and then getting killed because of their career choice. It's the characters that I enjoyed the most and the almost soap opera story of the regular characters in the series. Surprisingly, I picked the twist at the end very early in the book. Though it never detracted from the story.

Work reading to continue the series.

I have read the later books in the series and am surprised to discover I like these early ones better.
