I have never been so convinced a book could not work than I was at 98% into this one. I should have trusted, of course, because MacLean sticks the landing and pulls off a character arc I didn't think was possible, creating the only happily-ever-after I wanted for these characters and the only resolution to the primary conflict I could stomach. Holy trauma bonding.

Sarah, if this was intended to be a Wuthering Heights retelling, please blink twice.

Look, the man makes an incredibly impactful grand gesture (

) once he finally tells her the truth about the horror that tore them apart. It just took him slightly too long to get to that truth. -.5 ⭐️ for that. LOL.

I am sad that I didn’t like it more, I felt that they talked a lot about Ewan but they didn’t show anything, all the redemption happened behind the scenes, basically.
Another thing I hate it’s when misunderstandings or misconceptions drive the plot, how I hate that! And that’s exactly all this is about.
I hated the narrator too, I don’t know, too throaty.
