I really don’t know who this book is for. As someone who has struggled with the depths of depression, I understand that this is Styron’s way of working through his experience. Still the only adjective that I can think to accurately describe this memoir is self-serving.

DNF at 55% , writing is eloquent and as a non native speaker I'd like to know more about feeling of depression rather than thinking 'oh what this word might mean' it's not a big problem in fiction but in non fiction language can be a minus point
I'm psych major and have books like these on my tbr but never read non fiction, it was short but wasn't interesting for me

yes to this one !

Little bits (bites) From early pages of Darkness Visible

the struggle with the disorder in my mind
never recapture my lucidity
floundering helplessly in my efforts to deal
dank joylessness
depression is a disorder of mood
the luxury of concentration

Styron so exquisitely and accurately articulates the inner torment of suffering from depression. An excellent read for victims of depression, as a validation of one's unbearable experiences, as well as an insightful and educational read for loved ones of those with depression, in order to better understand what one is going through.
