3.5 not nearly a 4 but not just a 3.

I felt like I was laboring through this short book by one of my favorite authors about topic(s) I was extremely interested in. The story itself starts out with 14 year old Terry's parents leaving him to his own vices alone in his house. Taking advantage of his parents, Terry decided he will build the model car in his garage and drive it west across America to visit his Uncle in Oregon. Along the way he meets to Waylon, a 60's holdover who joins him to "truck" across and learn about America. The blurb on the back of the book essentially gives you the whole basic story. It kind of picked up near end, but then it ended too abruptly in my favor. Recommend to car enthusiasts especially.

Actually one of the better YA books I've read in awhile. Not too predictable, with actually interesting characters.
