I attempted to read a copy of this story that was included in the anthology [b:Call of Magic: A Limited Edition Collection of Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romances|56338689|Call of Magic A Limited Edition Collection of Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romances|Becca Blake|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1608390969l/56338689._SX50_.jpg|87775945] but had to quit in the middle. The following is a slight edit my original review there:
DNF after Ch 1 (of 5) after getting super irked by the FMC, overall plot, and the world.
This story was a second chance romance between the witch Shay and the human mayor Garrett. The two needed to work together when a magician mind-controlled the local vampires to attack townspeople in a town where Garrett had banned all magic for political reasons. I felt that the plot was really contrived, and the overemphasis of how hot the mayor was was unnecessary filler. Shay gave in to helping the shitty ex too easily. A few questions that annoyed me - why did these supernaturals even stay in the shitty town? Why couldn't they just all just move somewhere else?
