We’re back in LA in the third book tracking “the Midnight Man” who appears to be targeting parents and leaving the children behind. We’re also beginning to tie into Sean’s (Caitlin’s boyfriend) bombing case and I’m really hoping to see more from that in book four.

I loved seeing Caitlin’s interactions with Hannah (a spitfire witness who would make an excellent detective someday!) and how it softened her up a bit. I loved the Big Papi (shoutout to David Ortiz) reference when Hannah was holding the baseball bat.

My only complaint is that I’m now caught up and have to wait for the next book to come out!

“All her life she'd believed that her heart needed to be hidden, encased in Teflon, or she would end up emotionally flayed. That letting anybody in was destructive. It had taken her months to understand that Sean felt replenished when she came into his view. That she enlivened him... That when he looked and really saw her, he felt nourished.”

My Rating System: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ticked all the boxes LOVE IT!!!

This book is inspired by the events of the real-life serial killer The Night Stalker.

I am the legion of the night… I am the Midnight Man!!!

He comes in the dead of night and he takes the lives of the parents leaving only the children to bear witness and be left all alone… forever.

Citizens of Los Angeles are terrified of The Midnight Man as the attacks become more frequent and frenzied. The FBI Behavioural Analysis Unit is called in to help the LAPD with their investigation. Caitlin Hendrix and her team arrive and are immediately plunged in one of the most terrifying cases that anyone on the team has ever seen.

Caitlin sees something in this UNSUB that resonates with her on a very scary level… can she walk the knife’s edge between immersing herself completely and not losing herself altogether???

WOW!!! So… my worst nightmare is someone coming into my home and killing me and my family, in my sleep… I mean no one is keen for that BUT that terrifies me. So this one had me hooked, because I am deeply disturbed and like to read about terrifying things.

Sometimes I wonder why I’m so intrigued by serial killers. I think it’s because I am fascinated by the way their mind works and how a person is capable of acts this horrible. This book has a lot of the why the killer in this book does what he does and I loved that aspect.

Although the book wasn’t written about an actual person, I did pick up on all the Night Stalker similarities.

Like always, the chase scenes were written so incredibly well..

4.5 stars.

Definitely am invested in this series. It reads very similar to a Criminal Minds episode mixed with the inspiration from true crime cases.

If you have not read Unsub then I’m going to highly suggest you start with that book first and follow in order of the series to be able to follow the characters story line. If you love a procedural type of novel than these are one for you. Through my reading journey I was not expecting or prepared to learn who the suspect was going to be. This book had a great thrilling surprise factor, suspenseful action and cliff hangers that kept you turning the page.

Caitlin Hendrix is chasing a killer who is murdering couples in their bed, but strangely, leaves the children untouched. As a FBI Behavioral Analyst, she is called in to assist the local police force. As they analyze the clues, and with the help of a young witness, they believe the killer is a teen.
Caitlin needs to convince the task force that she is correct before the teen kills again. Plus, there is another likely fact about the killer, but one that the force doesn't want to accept.
Also, Sean and Caitlin's relationship continues. She does have concerns about his feelings for his ex-wife. Finally, The Ghost makes an appearance.
Very tense and exciting.
