Wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought it be a travelogue with some interesting insights and a little bit of history on some of the cities of Vietnam. It is a collection of short essays that is mostly about the writers spiritual journey. I gave up reading about 2/3rds in as I couldn't handle one more story about him visiting another monastery or temple. Not my cup of tea.

Love this guy, what a treasure. Travel writing at its best.

Seemed like a good thing to read before I travel to Vietnam this summer. Written by a man whose husband is Vietnamese and who has travelled to Vietnam numerous times. Great perspective on the people and culture. I hope I can track down a few of the places he talks about in the book.

Bought a copy in hcm for $5. Fun read, entertaining, but embellished. The guy has a way with words.
